East Africa is a prime destination for someone traveling during a Year Off. There’s no better place for volunteer work, adventure tourism, immersing yourself in culture, and going on safari to see the great African wildlife. Uganda, Tanzania, and Kenya are must-visit countries if traveling abroad.
I went on 4 safaris while traveling in Africa during my Year Off. In western Uganda, I went to Murchison Falls National Park for a safari and a sunrise boat cruise on the Nile River. Also in Uganda, I went gorilla tracking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. In Tanzania, I visited three different national parks on a 4 day safari; Tarangire National Park, Serengeti National Park, and Ngorongoro Conservation Area. And finally, in Kenya, I visited Maasai Mara National Reserve.
There’s no better place in the world to see wildlife than in the great parks and conservation areas of Africa. If you’re planning a Year Off, put Africa high on your places to visit! I hope you enjoy this photo gallery of my 32 favorite African wildlife pictures, all taken during my Year Off.
